The 5 Pillars of Every Great Bathroom

At Signature Bathrooms, we’ve developed a design philosophy built around five essential pillars — the things we believe every bathroom needs to get right. From lighting and layout to the finishing touches that make it feel like home, these core elements guide every decision we make.

Our Signature Approach to Beautiful, Functional Design

A great bathroom isn’t just about looks — it’s about how it works for you every single day.

At Signature Bathrooms, we’ve developed a design philosophy built around five essential pillars — the things we believe every bathroom needs to get right. From lighting and layout to the finishing touches that make it feel like home, these core elements guide every decision we make.

They’re not about chasing trends. They’re about designing bathrooms that feel good, function beautifully, and stand the test of time.

1. Storage That Works Beautifully

We’ll let you in on a secret — the most searched term in bathroom design is storage. And honestly, we understand why.

Without proper storage, even the best-looking bathroom can end up feeling messy and chaotic. That’s why we always take time to understand what you need day-to-day, and design smart solutions that blend seamlessly into your space — from under-basin drawers and tall units to recessed shower niches and hidden shelving.

The goal? A calm, clutter-free bathroom that works with your routine — and makes a lasting first impression.

2. Light & Air That Set the Mood

Lighting and ventilation are often overlooked — but they make a huge difference to how your bathroom feels, functions, and lasts.

Ventilation:

We don’t guess when it comes to airflow. As part of our survey process, we take accurate room measurements and calculate the correct extraction rate for your space, ensuring the fan we specify is fit for purpose. That means no steamed-up mirrors, no lingering damp, and a bathroom that stays fresher for longer — even in busy households.

Lighting:

Good lighting doesn’t just help you see — it sets the mood. We can keep it simple with new modern fixtures, or elevate things with layered lighting and smart controls that let you shift from bright and energising to soft and relaxing at the touch of a button. We think about where the light hits your face, how it reflects off surfaces, and how to keep shadows exactly where they belong — out of the way.

3. Surfaces That Make a Statement

Floors and walls are more than just finishes — they’re the canvas for your bathroom’s character. Whether you want timeless marble-effect tiles, cosy wood-look flooring, bold colour-blocked walls or subtle textures, we’ll help you find materials that look incredible and are built to handle real-life use.

We work with a wide range of surface options — not just tiles. From large-format shower panels and waterproof wall boards to vinyl flooring and textured panels, we can help you create a look that suits your style and your lifestyle.

We also pay attention to how the materials work together — making sure your floor doesn’t just match your wall, but complements it. And where practical, we design for easy cleaning, reduced slip risks, and long-term durability.

4. Fixtures That Feel Right

It’s easy to get distracted by the big visual features — but quality you can feel comes from the things you use every day. The tap that turns smoothly, the shower that just works, the toilet seat that doesn’t wobble.

We source brassware and sanitaryware that combine performance with personality — from classic curves to modern edges — and make sure they’re properly specified for your home’s water pressure and plumbing setup. And we give you options based on what matters most to you — whether that’s long-term durability, ergonomic comfort, a luxury look, or all of the above. It’s those details that make your bathroom feel good and work properly.

5. Finishing Touches That Pull It All Together

This is where the space really becomes yours.

Think: statement mirrors, wall hooks in the right spot, shelves styled with soft towels and a favourite candle, or a bespoke niche with lighting inside. These final layers are more than decorative — they create comfort, routine, and a sense of “home.”

At Signature, we think about the finishing touches from the start. We build them into the design, not bolt them on at the end.

Design That’s Built Around You

Our 5 Pillars aren’t just about creating beautiful bathrooms — they’re about creating bathrooms that work for you. From accurate ventilation calcs to smart lighting layouts, clever storage to seamless finishes, we bring design and function together in every detail.

And it all starts with a conversation.

Flush With Confidence: Why We Use Geberit, Thomas Dudley & Fluidmaster at DTS Plumbing Sheffield

When your toilet’s misbehaving—gurgling, ghost-flushing, or just refusing to go—it’s usually down to the flush or fill valves inside the cistern. And while they may be out of sight, they definitely shouldn’t be out of mind.

Why We Use WhatsApp Video Surveys

At DTS Plumbing & Heating, we’re all about making things quicker, easier, and more convenient for our customers. That’s why we offer WhatsApp video surveys – a smart way to get fast, accurate quotes without the need for a home visit.

At DTS Plumbing & Heating, we’re all about making things quicker, easier, and more convenient for our customers. That’s why we offer WhatsApp video surveys – a smart way to get fast, accurate quotes without the need for a home visit.

Whether it’s a new boiler, bathroom renovation, or general plumbing job, our video surveys allow us to see what’s needed, ask the right questions, and get the ball rolling – all without you having to leave the house (or even change out of your slippers).

Why We Use WhatsApp Video Surveys

WhatsApp video calls let us:

  • Quote accurately – We can see the space, ask the right questions, and provide tailored advice.
  • Save you time – No waiting around for visits or unnecessary disruptions.
  • Answer your questions on the spot – It’s a live chat with a real expert.
  • Cut down on travel and emissions – Better for the planet and your schedule.

How to Prepare for Your Video Survey

1. Stay in a Good WiFi or Signal Area

The clearer the call, the better we can help. Try to be near your WiFi router or in a strong mobile signal zone so the video doesn’t drop or freeze mid-chat.

2. Have the Area Accessible

Please make sure we’ll be able to see the area you want us to look at – whether it’s your boiler, bathroom, or pipework. If there’s anything to move out of the way first, that helps too.

3. Lighting Makes a Difference

Open the curtains or switch on the lights to help us get a clear view. Shadows can make it harder to see details.

4. Grab a Tape Measure

If you can, have a tape measure to hand or measure key areas in advance. This really helps when we’re looking at appliance sizes, radiator replacements, or planning layouts.

5. Send Us Product Info or Inspo Pics

If you’re looking at specific products (like a boiler model or a bathroom suite), feel free to send us any:

  • Manufacturer specs
  • Photos
  • Links to items you’ve seen online

This helps us be better prepared before the call starts.

What Happens on the Day

We’ll Send You a Quick Message First

We’ll always send a reminder message before the call so you’re not caught off guard. If you don’t need the call anymore, no worries – just drop us a message and we’ll cancel it.

Step-by-Step: How to Join the Call

  1. Answer the WhatsApp Video CallWe’ll give you a ring at the agreed time. Just tap the green button to answer.
  2. Switch to the Back CameraTap your screen, then tap the camera switch icon to use your back camera. This gives us the clearest view of what you’re showing.
  3. Walk Us Through ItMove your phone slowly around the space. We’ll guide you if we need to see anything closer or from a different angle.
  4. Ask Questions As You GoThis is your time too – if you’ve got queries or ideas, fire away while we’re on the call.

It’s a Casual Chat, Not an Inspection

No need to dress up or worry about making everything spotless. We’re here to help, not judge. Just be yourself and we’ll do the rest.

Boiler Service Day: Keep Calm and Put the Kettle On

Booking your annual boiler service? Smart move! A well-maintained boiler keeps your home warm, your energy bills lower, and your hot water flowing all year round. At DTS Plumbing & Heating, we’re here to make the process easy, efficient, and maybe even a bit enjoyable (yes, biscuits are involved).

Here’s everything you need to know about what happens during a boiler service—and how you can help us help you on the day.

Before We Arrive – A Bit of Prep Makes All the Difference

To help things go smoothly, here’s what you can do before we knock on the door:

  • Clear the way – make sure there’s easy access to the boiler and any relevant controls. No need to deep clean, just keep the clutter at bay.
  • Gas meter check – we may need to access this, so please make sure it’s not blocked by bins, boxes, or last year’s DIY project.
  • Background music? Sure! – something mellow is perfect. Our engineers have been known to hum along to a bit of Fleetwood Mac.

And of course:

  • Stick the kettle on – we’d never demand a brew, but we’re not likely to turn one down either.
  • Biscuits welcome (strongly encouraged) – Rich Teas, Hobnobs, or a wildcard like a Viennese Whirl? We don’t judge.

What We Actually Do During a Boiler Service

We get it—you want to know what you’re paying for. Here’s what’s included in your boiler service:

  • Visual inspection – we check for signs of leaks, corrosion, or anything that looks a bit “off”.
  • Internal check – we remove the boiler casing and take a close look at key components like the burner, heat exchanger, and seals.
  • Cleaning – we clean any parts that need a little TLC to keep everything ticking along.
  • System testing – we test flue emissions, gas pressure, safety devices, and controls to make sure your boiler is running efficiently and safely.
  • Paperwork – we fill out your logbook, let you know how everything looks, and offer any advice if we spot something worth keeping an eye on.

Got an Older Boiler? Here’s What to Know

Older boilers have served you well—but just like a favourite old car, sometimes a service can highlight parts that are on their last legs.

After a service, there’s a small chance that:

  • worn-out part might pack in once it’s been cleaned or tested. (Sometimes things that were just hanging on call it quits.)
  • Replacement parts may not be readily available for very old models. We’ll always do our best to track things down or suggest suitable alternatives.

We’ll always keep you in the loop. No pressure, no pushy sales—just honest advice and clear options if anything needs attention.

What You Can Expect From Us

  • Friendly, professional engineers
  • Respect for your home (and pets, playlists, and flooring)
  • No hidden costs
  • A little chat and a lot of know-how
  • Possibly some more poor jokes, sorry in advance

Quick Checklist for Service Day

  • Clear access to the boiler and gas meter
  • Keep pets out of the work area

What to Expect on Boiler Installation Day

So, you’ve booked your new boiler installation—great choice! At DTS Plumbing & Heating, we know that having tradespeople in your home can sometimes feel a bit daunting. That’s why we’ve put together this helpful guide to walk you through what to expect on the day of your boiler installation.

So, you’ve booked your new boiler installation—great choice! At DTS Plumbing & Heating, we know that having tradespeople in your home can sometimes feel a bit daunting. That’s why we’ve put together this helpful guide to walk you through what to expect on the day of your boiler installation. With a bit of prep and a few handy tips (yes, we’re looking at you, biscuit tin), we’ll have your home warm and toasty in no time.

Before We Arrive – Getting Ready for a Smooth Installation

To help our engineers work efficiently (and avoid playing obstacle course with your laundry basket), here are a few things you can do to prepare:

  • Clear access to your boiler, stop tap, radiators, and gas meter. We’ll need to move around your home to test the heating system, so please make sure all radiators are easily accessible and the gas meter isn’t buried under garden tools or your Christmas decorations.
  • Pop the kettle on – no pressure, but everyone knows plumbers work at least 25% faster when there’s a cuppa involved .
  • Dig out the biscuit tin – we’ve got a highly trained team, but nothing sharpens focus like a decent chocolate digestive (or two).
  • Secure any pets – we love animals, but we’d hate to see Mr Whiskers disappear into a boxed-in pipe void.
  • Make space on the driveway if possible – it helps us get tools in quickly and reduces time spent unpacking like we’re playing boiler-themed Tetris.

What Happens on Installation Day?

Once we arrive, here’s what you can expect:

  • Dust sheets down! We treat your home with care, laying protective covers in our work areas.
  • Water off – we’ll need to temporarily turn off your water supply during the installation.
  • Gas off – we’ll also isolate the gas while we work. It’s all standard procedure and nothing to worry about.
  • Power checks – we might need to briefly isolate your electrics while connecting controls.
  • Installation and testing – we’ll fit your new boiler, update pipework as needed, and test everything thoroughly.

We aim to complete most installations in a day, depending on the complexity of the job and any additional work needed.

Older Homes & Heating Systems – What You Should Know

We’re always upfront about potential risks—without the doom and gloom. Here are a few things to be aware of:

  • Old pipework can be temperamental – it may not always play nicely with modern systems. Occasionally, pipework can leak, or we may uncover hidden issues that need attention.
  • Sludge in radiators – older systems can collect debris (aka heating sludge) which may affect efficiency. We’ll flush where needed, but it’s something to keep in mind.
  • Outdated controls – if your thermostat or wiring is older than your favourite jumper, we may recommend updating to something that works smoothly with your new boiler.
  • Gas pressure – sometimes we spot issues at the gas meter or regulator. If this happens, we’ll talk you through your options and any next steps (usually involving your gas supplier).

Don’t worry—we’ll always communicate clearly and provide quotes for anything extra before going ahead. No surprises here!

Aftercare and Ongoing Support

Once the boiler is up and running, we’ll show you how everything works and leave your space clean and tidy.

Want peace of mind year-round? Check out our Cosy Care Plan – it’s our popular boiler service plan that covers maintenance, priority callouts, and can even save you 10% on your installation.

Quick Checklist for Boiler Installation Day

  • Clear space around boiler, radiators & gas meter
  • Keep pets safe and away from work areas
  • Make driveway space if possible
  • Have the kettle ready (builders’ brew, please)
  • Fetch those biscuits (bonus points for chocolate!)
  • Ask us any questions – we’re here to help!

Questions? We’ve Got You Covered

If you’ve got any concerns or just want to check something in advance, give us a ring. We’d rather chat things through than keep you guessing.
